MARSHALL, MINN. - Southwest Minnesota State outrebounded MSU Moorhead 51-27 and cruised to a 81-65 Northern Sun Intercollegiate victory on Friday night in Marshall.
The win for SMSU was its second in a row and improves its record to 9-4 overall, 2-2 NSIC. MSUM drops to 3-6 overall, 1-4 NSIC.
SMSU held a 28-7 rebound advantage in the opening half, including recording 13 offensive rebounds in building a 43-30 halftime lead.
The Mustangs held a slight 26-23 lead with 6:41 left in the first half, before SMSU rallied with a 12-2 run to push the lead to 38-25 with 3:46 remaining in the opening half.
SMSU never had its lead cut under 10 points for the remainder of the game and built its largest lead at 56-37 with 12 minutes left in the game.
Ross Demasi led SMSU with his fourth double-double of the season recording 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Jon DeRock added 13 points with a team-high two three-pointers.
Scott Roehl poured in a season-high 11 points on 5 of 5 shooting.
Taylor Huseby rounded out the double figure scorers with 11 points.
SMSU finished the game shooting 46.2 percent from the field (30 of 65), but was just 4 of 17 from three-point range.
MSUM was led by Justyn Burgess with 17 points.
SMSU will continue game two of its four-game homestand tomorrow night hosting Minnesota, Crookston at 8 p.m.
