THIS WEEK: The No. 8-seeded Southwest Minnesota State University men's basketball team (15-11, 10-10 NSIC) competes in the quarterfinals of the NSIC/Sanford Health Men's Basketball Tournament on Wednesday, March 3, taking on conference champion and No. 1 seed Minnesota State, Mankato (24-3, 17-3 NSIC) at the Taylor Center in Mankato. Tip-off is slated for
7 p.m. The Mavericks are also ranked No. 8 in the latest NABC Top 25 poll released on Tuesday.
The two teams will be facing each other for the third time this season with MSU winning both match-ups, including an 82-64 victory in Mankato on Dec. 5, and picking up an 81-64 win in Marshall on Feb. 20.
SMSU closed the regular season on a two-game winning streak to finish into a three-way tie for sixth place in the NSIC standings with Wayne State and Concordia, but following NSIC tiebreakers, the Mustangs were placed as the No. 8 seed.
