THIS WEEKEND:
The No. 8-seeded Southwest Minnesota State University men's basketball team (16-11, 10-10 NSIC), coming off its biggest victory since last season's NCAA region championship game, takes on No. 4 seed Winona State University (20-8, 13-7 NSIC) in the semifinals of the NSIC/Sanford Health Men's Basketball Tournament on Saturday, March 6, in St. Cloud, Minn.  Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m. at Halenbeck Hall on the campus of St. Cloud State University.
    SMSU opened the tournament with a thrilling 80-78 road victory over No. 1 seed and eighth-ranked Minnesota State on Wednesday night in Mankato.  Winona State won its quarterfinal game versus No. 5 University of Mary 76-57.  The win for SMSU was its first over a nationally ranked team since beating MSU on Feb. 21, 2009.
    The winner of Saturday afternoon's game between SMSU and WSU, will take on the winner of No. 6 seed Wayne State and No. 2 seed St. Cloud State, on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. for the NSIC Tournament championship and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA region tournament starting on March 13.
