THIS WEEK: The Southwest Minnesota State University baseball team (26-16, 22-10 NSIC) will compete at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Baseball Tournament at Faber Field in St. Cloud, Minn., May 5-8. SMSU, the tournament's No. 5 seed, will open the double elimination tournament on Wednesday, May 5, versus No. 2 seed Winona State University (35-12, 24-8 NSIC). If SMSU wins its first game, they will play the winner of No. 3 St. Cloud State/No. 4 Minnesota Duluth at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. If SMSU loses on Wednesday, they will play the loser of No. 1 Minnesota State/No. 6 Wayne State at 12 p.m. on Thursday. The winner of the tournament earns an automatic bid to the NCAA region tournament on May 13-16.
SMSU IN THE NSIC TOURNAMENT AGAIN: Southwest Minnesota State is the only program in conference history to qualify for all 15 NSIC tournaments since its inception in 1996. The Mustangs have won the tournament championship four times in 1996, 1997, 1999 and 2002 and has finished second in both 1998 and 2005.
