First Half Turnovers Doom Mustangs Against Winona State

MARSHALL, Minn. –
Winona State jumped out to a 35-19 halftime lead and never looked back defeating Southwest Minnesota State 61-45 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play tonight in Marshall. Winona State who is ranked No. 7 in the Central Region improves to 14-5, 10-5 NSIC while the Mustangs fall to 7-12, 6-9 in conference play.

Katie Wolff led all players with 15 points, picking up all of her buckets in the first half of play. Kelsey Andrist finished with 14 points and Natalie Gigler corralled 12 to lead WSU past the Mustangs, snapping SMSU's three game winning streak.

Tori Fink led the Mustangs with 11 points, while freshman Sam Abens picked up seven. Southwest Minnesota State was 16 of 49 shooting on the night good for 32 percent from the floor.

The Mustangs turned the ball over 16 times tonight, with 13 of them coming in the first half. The Warriors scored 19 points off of SMSU's turnovers.

Freshman Hannah Beeler finished with four points and a career-high six rebounds in 18 minutes of play.

Southwest Minnesota State will pick up NSIC action next weekend traveling to Wayne State and Augustana. The Mustangs will tip-off with the Wildcats at 6 p.m. next Friday night before playing the Vikings at 4 p.m. Saturday in Sioux Falls, S.D.
