St. Cloud State Stuns SMSU in Double Overtime

Amanda Wagner scored on as time expired in double overtime to lead St. Cloud State to a thrilling 78-76 double overtime victory over Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday night.

Talisha Barlow scored a career-high 34 points on 13 of 23 shooting to lead SCSU (12-11, 9-10 NSIC), while Aaryn Booker added 10 points and 10 rebounds.

SMSU's Amber Peterson sent the game into overtime with a field goal with 4.5 seconds left in regulation.  The two teams scored just four points each in the overtime to send the game into double overtime at 69-69.

Abby Kenealy led SMSU (7-16, 6-13 NSIC) with 17 points and 11 rebounds.  The loss was SMSU's fifth straight.

SMSU has now lost seven straight overtime games dating back to the 2004-05 season.

In double overtime, Kenealy hit one of two free throws to give SMSU a 73-71 lead, but SCSU's Wagner drilled a go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:12 left to give SCSU a 74-73 lead.

Barlow pushed the SCSU lead to 76-73 with 19 seconds left, but SMSU answered again as Kenealy drilled a 3-pointer to tie the game with nine seconds remaining.

On SCSU's next possession, Barlow attempted a field goal with three seconds left, but her shot missed the rim and bounced off the back board to Wagner who put the shot up just before the buzzer sounded.

The game featured 11 lead changes and was tied nine times.

SMSU will play at Bemidji State next Friday night.
