MARSHALL, Minn. – Southwest Minnesota State closed out its exhibition schedule on Monday night with a 68-49 victory over St. Olaf College.
Lavione West scored a game-high 14 points for the Mustangs on 7 of 14 shooting, while
Shaun Condon added 13 points.
SMSU shot 48.1 percent from the field and held a 42-30 rebound margin, but committed 20 turnovers, leading to 22 points for the Oles.
St. Olaf shot just 31.1 percent from the field, including 4 of 21 from 3-point range.
SMSU never trailed in the game, jumping out to a 9-2 lead and building its largest lead of the first half at 33-16 with three minutes and 43 seconds remaining, before taking a 35-23 halftime lead.
St. Olaf cut the deficit to 35-28 early in the second half, but SMSU answered with five straight points to build the lead back to double digits and never looked back.
Southwest Minnesota State opens the regular season on Friday afternoon at the Disney Tip-Off Classic in Anaheim, Calif., taking on Cal. State, Dominguez Hills with tip slated for 3:30 p.m. CST.
