MINNEAPOLIS -
Nate Dickhausen tossed six strong innings, allowing just one run on two hits, in his first appearance of the season, to lead Southwest Minnesota State to a 6-1 victory over Northern State in game two of non-conference doubleheader on Friday.  Northern State won game one 7-3.

In the opener, SMSU (8-5) held a 3-2 lead into the sixth, but NSU (5-7) put together a two-out rally to take the lead and the victory.

Adam Thygesen, Kyle Young and Ben Korger led SMSU in game one with two hits apiece, with Young and Doug Mead each recording an RBI.

Jeremy Schmidt started and allowed two runs on six hits with a career-high six strikeouts in five innings to earn a no- decision.  Corby McGlauflin suffered the loss allowing two runs and two walks in two-thirds of an inning.

SMSU opened the scoring in the first inning on a bases loaded walk by Kyle Young, scoring Thygesen, who reached earlier on a ground-rule double.

NSU came back with two runs in the second inning before SMSU answered with a pair of runs in the fourth to take the lead.  Chris Eichten and Korger started the inning with singles, before Mead tied the game with an RBI single.  A walk by Thygesen loaded the bases, before Jordon Kontz hit into a 6-4-3 double play to score Korger and give SMSU a 3-2 lead.

NSU put together a two-out rally in the sixth to take the lead back and earn the victory.  With a runner on first and two outs, a walk and back-to-back singles gave the Wolves a 4-3 advantage.  NSU would then add three insurance runs in the seventh to put the game away.

In game two, Dickhausen struck out three and walked three, but allowed just two hits and one run in six innings to earn the victory.  He finished the game throwing 81 pitches, with 52 for strikes.

The Wolves scored a run in the second to take an early 1-0 lead, before SMSU quickly answered in the third.  Thygesen started the scoring with a long home run over the left field wall, his second career homer, tying the game at 1-1.  Kontz followed with a walk and following a pair of wild pitches, scored on a sac fly by Brian Ness.

SMSU added to the lead in the fifth inning as Korger led off with a single and came around to score on a Thygesen sac fly to give the Mustangs a 3-1 advantage.

SMSU then broke the game open in the sixth with Tyler Flattum leading off with a single and then coming around to score on an inside-the-park home run by Mead.  Mead hit a liner into center and the NSU centerfielder dove for the ball, but came up short as the ball rolled all the way to the fence for Mead's first career home run.  The Mustangs added another run later in the inning as Thygesen drilled a run-scoring double to score Korger and push the lead to 6-1.

Thygsen finished 2 for 3 with three RBIs in the game, while Flattum, Mead, Korger and Jon Ellis all added two hits each.

Southwest Minnesota State returns to the Metrodome on Tuesday, March 20, with a non-conference doubleheader versus Augustana starting at 11 a.m.
