Mustang baseball returns to action tomorrow morning

THIS WEEK: The Southwest Minnesota State University baseball team (8-5) continues non-conference play with a doubleheader versus Augustana College (5-3) tomorrow at the Metrodome in Minneapolis, with first pitch set for 11 a.m.  Augustana?will face St. Cloud State in a doubleheader tonight prior to taking on SMSU on Tuesday morning.

THE SERIES: Southwest Minnesota State is 41-34 all-time versus Augustana in a series that started in 1980.  SMSU leads 8-5 in 13 games since the start of the 2008 season.  SMSU?head coach Paul Blanchard is 21-14 all-time versus Augustana.

HEAD COACH: Paul Blanchard, the all-time leader in victories at SMSU, is in his 16th season as head coach and has an overall record of 398-293-1, including 211-125 in conference play.  During his tenure, Blanchard has led the program to its only NCAA tournament appearance, one Northern Sun Conference Intercollegiate championship, three NSIC tournament championships and 14 appearances in the NSIC tournament.  Blanchard's 390 career victories entering the season ranks 50th among all active coaches in NCAA?Division II, while his .575 career winning percentage ranks in the Top 60.  Named the fifth coach in SMSU history on July 14, 1996, Blanchard has coached two NSIC Players of the Year, one NSIC Pitcher of the Year, 21 all-region players, two Academic All-Americans, the program's only NCAA All-American and two Major League Baseball draft picks.
