SMSU falls to Northern State 64-46 on Friday night

ABERDEEN, S.D. - Coming off its first conference win, the Southwest Minnesota State women's basketball team stumbled against Northern State 64-46 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action on Friday night.

The Mustangs (2-14 overall, 1-10 NSIC) lost their fourth straight game at Wachs Arena in Aberdeen, S.D. versus Northern State dating back to Feb. 2, 2008.

The Mustangs were led by Bree Holleman's 14 points - her 10th double-digit scoring game this season. Northern State's Rachel Krogman led all scorers with 19 points and collected 12 rebounds for the game's only double-double.

SMSU shot 33.3 percent in the first half (8 of 24) and 33.3 percent in the second half (9 of 27) to finish the game shooting 33.3 percent (17-51) from the floor. Northern State did not shoot much better as the Wolves finished 21 of 59 from the field - good for a 35.6 FG percentage.

Northern State shot 41 free throws but only managed to make 22 while the Mustangs shot a measly 11 free throws - making four.

SMSU managed just 22 second half points - its lowest second half total since the season opener versus Pittsburg State on Nov. 9, 2012 (19 points).

SMSU finished the game 8 of 24 from 3-point range - the 24 attempts were the most attempts since the season opener versus Pittsburg State on Nov. 9, 2012 (27 attempts).

SMSU finished the game with 21 turnovers - its most since the 86-56 loss to Minnesota State, Mankato on Dec. 14, 2012.

SMSU will travel to battle MSU Moorhead tomorrow at 4 p.m.
