SMSU hosts top two north division teams, St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth

OPENING TIP
The Southwest Minnesota State University women's basketball team will host the top two teams in the north division of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference this weekend at the R/A Facility. The Mustangs will collide with St. Cloud State on Friday, Jan. 11 at 6 p.m., and Minnesota Duluth on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 5 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
Southwest Minnesota State dropped its seventh and eighth straight game this past weekend as the Mustangs fell to Winona State on Friday and Upper Iowa on Saturday. Winona State shot 48 percent from behind the arc and limited SMSU to just 33 percent shooting in earning a 72-53 victory in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women's basketball on Friday night. SMSU closed the gap to 61-49 with 6:41 left in the game after a three-point play by Bonlander, but WSU allowed just four points the remainder of the game to close out its 12th straight victory over SMSU.

On Saturday, SMSU fell 80-59 to the Upper Iowa Peacocks. With the loss, SMSU dropped to 1-11 overall, 0-7 in the NSIC while Upper Iowa notched its first conference win of the season as the Peacocks improved to 4-10 overall, 1-6 in the NSIC. The Mustangs were led by Alison Nagel as she netted 15 points in the contest while also adding six rebounds while Ellen Degler recorded SMSU's first double-double of the season (14 points,10 rebounds).
