SMSU continues four-game road swing with trip to Michigan for a pair of games

THIS WEEK - The Southwest Minnesota State University (1-2) men's basketball team continues non-conference play this week with a pair of games versus teams from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). SMSU will take on Northern Michigan University (2-1) on Thursday with tip-off slated for 6:30 p.m. CST at the Berry Events Center in Marquette, Mich. On Friday, SMSU will travel to Houghton, Mich., to face Michigan Tech University (1-0) with tip set for 6 p.m. CST at the SDC Gym. The games are the middle two of a four-game road trip that started on Monday at South Dakota State. Following this week's games, SMSU will open Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play at the University of Sioux Falls on Nov. 30. The Mustangs return home on Dec. 6 taking on Augustana.

MUSTANG QUICK HITTERS -
•Cole Martin scored a career-high 11 points in the loss to South Dakota State on Monday.
•Mitch Weg scored a career-high eight points on 4 of 5 shooting in the loss to SDSU.
•South Dakota State shot 52.5 percent from the field on Monday night. Only four teams shot 50 percent or better from the field versus SMSU last season.
•SMSU shot 70.8 percent from the field in the second half during over Northwest Missouri State on Nov. 10. It's the first time SMSU has shot 70 percent in one half since Feb. 7, 2009, at Minnesota Crookston.
•Senior Nick Smith tied a career-high with five blocked shots versus Northwest Missouri State.
•Junior Shaun Condon scored a career-high 15 points versus Fort Hays State.
•SMSU shot 50 percent or higher from the field in 16 games last season, including 14 of 22 NSIC games.
•SMSU finished last season ranked 15th in Division II in field goal pct. (48.8) and 21st in free throw pct. (75.4).
•SMSU set a school record with 107 blocked shots last season.
•In the final 2012-13 NSIC statistics, SMSU finished first in field goal pct., second in blocked shots, third in assists, fourth in scoring, fourth in field goal pct. defense and fourth in free throw pct.
•SMSU has led the NSIC in field goal pct. the past two seasons.
