SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Brian Ness tied a career-high with four hits, while belting a home run and finishing with three RBIs to lead Southwest Minnesota State to an 8-6 victory over Augustana in game two of a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader on Saturday. 
Augustana (14-10, 3-1 NSIC) won the opener 6-1, winning the series by taking three of four in the conference opening series for both teams.
Ness led a 12-hit SMSU (6-12-1, 1-3 NSIC) attack, with 
Kyle Young adding three hits, while 
Ryan Engels had two hits, including belting his first career home run.
The brother combination of Travis and 
Corby McGlauflin pitched SMSU to the victory in the nightcap.  
Travis McGlauflin (2-3) picked up the win, tossing 5.1 innings, allowing six runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and two walks.  
Corby McGlauflin pitched the final 3.2 innings to pick up his first save of the season, allowing no runs on four hits with three strikeouts. 
SMSU started the scoring in the second inning scoring two runs, behind an RBI single by 
Tanner Neale and a fielding error by Augustana.
The Vikings quickly answered with four runs in the bottom of the second to take a 4-2 advantage, but SMSU responded in the third pushing across a pair of runs to tie the game.  Ness and 
Jarred Carlson started the frame with back-to-back singles, with Ness coming around to score on an RBI double by Young, while Carlson scored on a sac fly by 
Elliott Serbus. 
SMSU regained the lead in the fourth inning as Engels started the rally with a one-out double before scoring on a run-scoring single by Ness to give SMSU a 5-4 lead. 
Augustana moved back in front in the fifth inning on a two-run triple by David Borchardt to give the Vikings a 6-5 advantage, but SMSU regained the lead for good in the sixth behind the bat of Ness. 
The inning started with a pair of strikeouts, before 
Jordon Kontz coaxed a two-out walk, sending Ness to the plate and the senior belted his second homer of the season to give SMSU a 7-6 lead.
Following a one-out walk in the bottom of the sixth, Corby relieved his younger brother and retired five of the next six batters to keep SMSU with a one-run lead.
In the eighth, Engels added to the lead, drilling his first career home run to push the margin to 8-6.
Augustana put a pair of runners on base in the eighth, but McGlauflin ended the threat with a strikeout and then closed the game in the ninth with a 4-6-3 double play.
In game one, Kye Winter tossed a complete game four-hitter, allowing an unearned run, while racking up eight strikeouts and just one walk.
SMSU opened the game's scoring in the top of first as Engels walked, moved to third on a single by Ness, before scoring on a throwing error by Winter on a failed pickoff attempt.
The Vikings quickly answered in the home half of the first, pushing across three runs on three hits, while taking advantage of two walks to build a 3-1 lead.  Augustana added to the lead pushing across single runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings.
Joe Axelson (1-2) started on the mound for SMSU, but lasted just two-plus innings, allowing three runs on three hits with two walks.  
Brandan Alfson pitched three solid innings of relief, allowing one unearned run on one hit with two strikeouts.
Ness finished the game with two hits, while Kontz and Young each recorded one hit apiece.
Southwest Minnesota State continues NSIC play on Wednesday, April 3, with a doubleheader at Winona State.
