THIS WEEK - The Southwest Minnesota State University baseball team (12-22-1, 7-13 NSIC) looks to keep its hopes alive of making the eight-team Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament with six big Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference games play this week to conclude the regular season.  SMSU will play at Bemidji State (20-16, 11-9 NSIC) on Wednesday afternoon with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.  SMSU will then conclude the regular season with four home games versus Minnesota Crookston (1-36, 1-23 NSIC) on Friday and Saturday at Alumni Field.  Friday's doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m., while Saturday's doubleheader will start at 12 p.m.

FEWEST HOME GAMES  - Southwest Minnesota State has yet to play a home game this season and even if SMSU plays its four games this weekend in Marshall, it won't be the fewest home games ever played  in one season.  During the 2001 season, SMSU did no play a single NSIC game at home and played just two home games total, a pair of non-conference games versus Augustana.

SERIES HISTORY - Southwest Minnesota State leads Bemidji State 90-58 in a series that started in 1970.  The teams met earlier this season in Tucson, Ariz., with SMSU earning an 11-9 victory on March 13, but BSU rallied with an 8-5 victory on March 14.  SMSU leads 10-8 in the last 18 meetings since April 28, 2008.  BSU won both games last season played in Bemidji, 8-1 and 14-8.  SMSU head coach Paul Blanchard is 38-17 all-time versus Bemidji State ... Southwest Minnesota State leads Minnesota Crookston 35-3 in a series that started in 2000.  SMSU has won 22 of the last 23 meeting since the 2004 season, with UMC's only win coming in 2009.  Blanchard is 35-3 all-time versus Minnesota Crookston.

MUSTANG TRENDS - Senior Kyle Young leads the team with a .387 batting average and has collected a team-high 14 multi-hit games ... Young ranks ninth in the NSIC in total bases, 10th in home runs and 14th in hits ... Junior Jarred Carlson is tied for the team-lead with 23 RBIs and leads the club with seven multi-RBI games ... Senior Brian Ness is tied for the team-lead with 23 RBIs and is batting .308 ... Ness has 11 multi-hit games and six multi-RBI games ... Sophomore Steven Kremer collected career-highs in both hits (3) and RBIs (4) in a win over Northern State on April 27 and ranks second on the team with a .325 batting average ... Sophomore Jon Ellis had a team-high 12-game hitting streak earlier this season ... Ellis has reached  base in 16 straight games entering this week ... Ellis also leads the team  with seven stolen bases ...  Senior Corby McGlauflin leads the team with 14 pitching appearances along with four saves, which also is tied for first in the NSIC ... Freshman Travis McGlauflin has two victories and leads the team with 28 strikeouts ... Junior Steven Wehr tossed a career-high six innings to earn the victory versus Northern State on April 27 ... SMSU has been outscored 44-14 in the first inning and a combined 77-34 in the first two innings ... SMSU is 9-1 when leading after five innings, 9-0 when leading after six innings, 6-0 when leading after seven and 7-0 when leading after eight ... SMSU ranks third in the NSIC in home runs.
