MARSHALL, Minn. –
Southwest Minnesota State snapped an 18-game Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference losing skid with a 65-61 victory over Winona State on Friday Night. The win also snapped SMSU's overall losing streak of 12 dating back to Nov. 15, 2013.

Kate Hartman missed a deep 3-pointer with six seconds left that would have tied the game at 64 and SMSU's Ellen Degler came down with the rebound. Degler was immediately fouled and she sealed SMSU's first conference victory of the season by making one of two to give SMSU a 65-61 lead.

SMSU improves to 3-12 overall, 1-10 in the NSIC, while WSU falls to 8-7, 4-7 in the NSIC.

SMSU was led by Degler's 15 points on 5 of 11 shooting, while Rebekah Rolling and Annessa Rosch chipped in with 11 points each. Bree Holleman and Alison Nagel, SMSU's leading scorers on the season, combined for just 10 points.

SMSU finished the game shooting 23 of 51 (45.1%), including a season-high 75.0 percent from behind the arc ( 6 of 8). The six 3-pointers, which were all made in the first half, were the most made in a game since the Mustangs' 80-61 loss to No. 10 Augustana on Dec. 6, 2013.

SMSU, which entered the game ranked 15th in the NSIC with a 28.8 shooting percentage from behind the arc, went 6 of 6 from long range in the first half – headed by Rosch's three made 3-point attempts. SMSU's top two scorers entering the game went a combined 0-2 in the first half with no points.

WSU built its largest lead of the game with 9:51 remaining in the half -- 11 points led by Abby Busch's 13 first half points. SMSU took its first lead of the game with 2:47 remaining when the Mustangs went on a 14-3 run to push the score to 32-30. The two teams went into the half all knotted up at 36.

Busch finished with a game-high 21 points in the losing effort.

The win marks SMSU's second straight victory over WSU in the R/A Facility -- SMSU defeated the Warriors last year at the R/A Facility on Hawaiian Night, 66-64.

SMSU will look to keep things rolling tomorrow night versus Upper Iowa. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. from the R/A facility.
