BOX SCORE

WAYNE, Neb. -
Alison Nagel scored 21 points but it wasn't enough as Southwest Minnesota State fell to Wayne State College 67-58 on Friday night in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action.

The win was WSC's 10th straight over SMSU dating back to Feb. 25, 2009. SMSU has scored 60 or more points just once during that span.

Nagel recorded her second straight 20-point performance and fourth of the season as she tied a game-high 21 points on 10 of 13 shooting. The 10 field goals made was a career-high for the senior forward. Her previous high was nine, which she set earlier this season versus Crown on Nov. 11.

Ellen Degler, who leads SMSU in field goal percentage (56.6%), finished the game with six points on just 2 of 12 from the field. Degler grabbed a team-high seven rebounds in the loss.

SMSU and WSC finished the night identical from the field as both squads hit 25 field goals on 54 attempts (46.3%). The difference was at the free throw line as the Wildcats converted on 12 of 15 attempts, while SMSU went to the charity stripe just seven times making five. SMSU owned a 32-28 rebounding advantage in the contest but coughed up the ball 23 times – one fewer than its season-high. WSC turned in 27 points off those turnovers.

SMSU never led in the game.

SMSU (3-14, 1-12 NSIC) will continue its road weekend tomorrow at 4 p.m. versus Augustana at the Elmen Center in Sioux Falls.
