MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State women's basketball team opened its exhibition season on Sunday with a 93-83 victory over NCAA Division III St. Catherine University at the R/A Facility.
SMSU had five players score in double figures with
Annessa Rosch poured in 16 points, while grabbing nine rebounds and dishing out four assists.
Amaun Frazier (12),
Lauren Hedlund (11),
Whitney Miller (10) and
Tiffany Gehl (10) also all finished scoring in double figures for the Mustangs.
Emilee Duske led SMSU with a game-high 13 rebounds.
The Mustangs held a 50-33 rebound advantage, including pulling down 17 offensive rebounds.
St. Kate's led 39-27 with 4:44 left in the opening half, before SMSU rallied to close the half on a 15-2 run to build a 42-41 halftime lead.
St. Kate's held its last lead of the game at 59-58 with 12:30 remaining in the game, but SMSU answered with a 10-0 run over the next two minutes, and never trailed again.
LaShay Holt recorded a double-double for the Wildcats with 31 points and 10 rebounds.
SMSU shot 49 percent (31 of 63) from the field with five 3-pointers. St. Kate's ended the game shooting 39 percent (27 of 70) from the field, including 8 of 25 from 3-point range.
Southwest Minnesota State concludes its exhibition season next Sunday, Nov. 9, at NCAA Division I Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
