MARSHALL, Minn. - Southwest Minnesota State connected on 16 3-pointers—its highest total in six years—and went on to cruise to a 100-71 victory over the University of Jamestown (N.D.) in non-conference men's basketball on Friday night at the R/A Facility.
SMSU's
Turner Moen scored a game-high 21 points, grabbed seven rebounds, dished out three assists and had two steals to lead the Mustangs. Moen made 7 of 8 shots and was 5 of 6 from 3-point range.
SMSU (3-1) had six players reach double figures in scoring and shot 60 percent (38 of 63) from the field, including a blistering 16 of 30 from 3-point range.

MJ Delmore (12) all scored double figures for the Mustangs. SMSU finished the game holding a 35-24 rebound advantage and committed a season-low 11 turnovers.
Brequan Tucker led the Jimmies (4-6) with 20 points on 7 of 11 shooting with four 3-pointers. Jamestown shot 48 percent from the field and committed 15 turnovers.
Tonight was the first time SMSU made 15 or more 3-pointers in a game since making 15 versus Humboldt State (Calif.) on Nov. 8, 2008. Tonight was also SMSU's first 100-point game since losing 104-103 in triple overtime at Concordia-St. Paul on Feb. 13, 2010. The last time SMSU reached triple digits in regulation was in a 103-52 win over Humboldt State on Nov. 8, 2008.
Jamestown scored the game's first three points, but SMSU quickly tied the game with a Moen 3-pointer and never trailed again. The teams played a tight game for much of the first 12 minutes with SMSU holding a 22-20 lead with seven minutes remaining in the first half. The Mustangs then reeled off a 12-3 run over the next four minutes to take its largest lead of the half at 36-23 with 2:47 remaining.
The Jimmies rallied with seven straight points to cut the deficit to 36-30, before Moen closed the half with a 3-pointer to stake SMSU to a 39-30 halftime lead.
The game remained close in the opening two minutes of the second half, with SMSU holding a 44-37 lead, but a decisive 20-7 run put the game away as the Mustangs built a 64-44 advantage with 13 minutes left following a Martin 3-pointer.
SMSU has been red-shot from 3-point range this season having connected on nine or more in all four games, including making 12 or more in three of the contests.
The Mustangs have also shot 50 percent or higher in every half through four games.
Southwest Minnesota State will return to action next Friday, Nov. 28, hosting Michigan Tech with tip-off slated for 8 p.m. SMSU will also host Northern Michigan on Saturday, Nov. 29.
