MARSHALL, Minn. - Upper Iowa held off a second half comeback attempt by Southwest Minnesota State to earn an 82-75 victory in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women's basketball on Saturday night at the R/A Facility.
Lauren Buck led the Peacocks (3-4, 1-2 NSIC) with 20 points, 16 rebounds, two blocked shots, two steals and two assists.
Lauren Hedlund led SMSU (0-7, 0-3 NSIC) with a game-high 21 points, her third 20-plus scoring game of the season.
Annessa Rosch added 18 points for the Mustangs, while
Emilee Duske scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for her first career double-double.
UIU led 33-30 at halftime and later built a 49-41 lead with 13 minutes and 22 seconds left in the second half.
SMSU would rally to cut the deficit to 53-52 and 55-54 midway through the second half, but UIU countered to build a 65-56 lead with 7:32 remaining in the game.
The Mustangs wouldn't go away and trimmed the Peacocks lead to three points later in the half, but UIU was able to hold off SMSU to earn the win.
SMSU is at U-Mary next Friday night.
