> SMSU vs. Northern State Photo Gallery THIS WEEK: Southwest Minnesota State University (1-3 NSIC, 0-0 NSIC South) returns to the road to battle No. 3 Minnesota State University (4-0 NSIC, 0-0 NSIC South) on Saturday, Oct. 4, in the NSIC South Division opener for both teams. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. at Blakeslee Stadium on the campus of MSU. SMSU is 0-12 all-time versus MSU and will be looking to secure the program's first ever victory over a nationally ranked Division II opponent.
A VICTORY FOR SMSU ON SATURDAY WOULD...: •Be its first-ever victory over Minnesota State.
•Be its first-ever over a nationally ranked Division II team.
•Lift SMSU's all-time record to 178-295-5, including 116-201-5 in conference play.
SMSU IN NSIC SOUTH PLAY: The 2014 season marks the seventh season of divisional play in the NSIC. SMSU's second place finish last season (5-2) was the highest finish in program history. SMSU is 14-24 all-time in South Division games. The following is how SMSU has finished in the NSIC South since 2008.
2013: 5-2, 2nd place
2012: 3-4, 4th place
2011: 1-5, 6th place
2010: 1-5, 6th place
2009: 1-5, 6th place
2008: 3-3, 4th place
SMSU STORYLINES: •SMSU ranks 14th in Division II in third-down conversions (52.7).
•Senior
Tyler Tonderum ranks 18th among all active players in Division II with 2,398 career rushing yards.
•Tonderum's 36-yard run last week was the longest by an SMSU player this season.
•SMSU was limited to just 67 plays last Saturday versus Northern State, while NSU held a 37:58 to 22:02 time of possession advantage.

AJ Page has missed the last two games with an injury.

Mike Wenk leads the NSIC in punting with a 46.4 yard average and ranks second in Division II.
•Wenk tied a career-high with a 42-yard field goal versus UMC in week two.
•Wenk booted three field goals in the win over UMC in week two becoming the first SMSU kicker to make three field goals in a game since 2007.

Jordan Cross caught a career-high eight passes for 55 yards last week versus Northern State.

Charlie Kern ranks fifth in the NSIC in passing (242.8) and sixth in total offense (275.8).

Adam Olson set a career-high with two touchdown receptions last week versus Northern State.
•SMSU's seven points scored in week three versus UMD was its lowest since losing 38-0 to Minnesota State on Nov. 5, 2011.
•UMD rushed for 462 yards in week three which is the most by an opponent since Bemidji State had 437 on Sept. 17, 2011.
•SMSU has scored 30 or more points in 18 of its last 28 games dating back to the final game of the 2011 season.
•SMSU's 56 points in week two versus Minnesota Crookston was its highest point total since scoring 63 versus South Dakota Tech in 2006.
•SMSU scored 50 or more points in four games last season setting a new program record. SMSU scored 40 or more points in six games in 2013, ranking second behind the 1991 team which holds the record with eight 40-point games.
