Whitney Burmeister named CoSIDA Academic All-District

MARSHALL, Minn. — Southwest Minnesota State University senior libero Whitney Burmeister has been named to the Academic All-District 7 team. The announcement was made by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.
 
District 7 is made up of member schools from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC), the Mid-America Athletic Association (MIAA), and the Great American Conference (GAC).
 
Burmeister, native of Lakefield, Minn., has played 90 sets this season with 377 digs. The exercise science major has earned a 3.98 cumulative GPA during her four years at SMSU. Burmeister, a four-year letterwinner, has 1,505 digs, a 3.71 dig per set average and 120 service aces in 112 career matches played.
 
Burmeister will now advance to the Academic All-America ballot, where first, second and third team All-Academic honorees will be selected next month.
 
Nominations and voting for the Academic All-America programs are conducted by members of CoSIDA.
 
The announcement was made by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

SMSU (21-3, 14-2 NSIC) continues action this weekend with matches against Winona State and Upper Iowa.
 
Southwest Minnesota State, located in Marshall, is a member of NCAA Division II and competes in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
