MARSHALL, Minn. - The Southwest Minnesota State suffered its first home loss of the season to No. 15 Minnesota State, 31-9 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference wrestling
SMSU (7-10, 3-4 NSIC) started the match scoring at 125 pounds, as
Taylor Curtis picked up a 6-4 decision in overtime for a sudden victory.
The Mavericks followed the opening bout with an 8-4 decision at 133 pounds to tie it and then a 15-5 major decision at 141 to take a 7-3 lead. MSU didn't stop there, as it recorded pins in the next two bouts to build a 19-3 lead.
The Mustangs grabbed points at 165 pounds following a 3-2 decision from
Kegen Fingalsen.
MSU put the match out of reach after taking the next three bouts to lead 31-6 going into the final bout.
Cole Wilson kept his 12-bout winning streak alive after a hard fought 4-3 decision in the third overtime period.
Mustangs will travel to MSU Moorhead tomorrow for a 5 p.m., dual. SMSU will return to the PE Gym on Thursday, Feb. 18, for its final match of the regular season against Concordia-Moorhead.
