MARSHALL, Minn. - The University of Minnesota, Crookston recorded four players in double-digit points to defeat Southwest Minnesota State, 85-65 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women's basketball Saturday night.
SMSU (5-19, 3-14 NSIC) finished shooting 36.7 percent (22 of 60) and 72 percent (18 of 25) from the charity stripe. UMC (15-6, 12-5 NSIC) shot 51.6 percent (32 of 62) from the floor and 75 percent from the line.
Hope Bonlander led SMSU with 16 points while pulling down five rebounds.
Lauren Hedlund added 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to record her fourth double-double of the season-fifth of her career.
Annessa Rosch added to the Mustang defense tallying seven rebounds.
UMC held an 11-6 point advantage in fast-break points, while SMSU held a 12-3 advantage in points off turnovers.
UMC grabbed an early lead, but SMSU tied it with 7:17 left in the first quarter at 8-all. UMC regained the lead and put together a 14-0 run over the last 3:32 of the frame to lead 28-13. The Golden Eagles held control through the second quarter and built its largest lead of the game so far with 1:21 left in the half at 51-31. UMC led 51-33 at the break.
UMC kept it a double-digit lead after the half and maintained it to earn the victory.
Southwest Minnesota State will host Augustana and Wayne State next weekend for its final regular season home games.
