SMSU track & field has strong day in Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Southwest Minnesota State women's and men's track & field teams recorded several high finishes at the University of Sioux Falls Invite on Sunday.
 
For the SMSU women's team, the Mustangs finished first, second and fourth in the 400m. Eisha Oden captured first place with a time of 58.97, Sarah Mayfield was second at 59.0, while Nya Buom placed third with a time of 1:01.10.
 
Kim Shabino won the 200m with a time of 26.33 and placed third in the 100m at 12.7.
 
Hannah Palmeter recorded a time of 4:51.04 in the 1,500m to finish fourth, while Kristen Weber also placed fourth in the 800m crossing the line at 2:28.22.
 
Alex Weis helped pace the men's team with a second place toss in the hammer throw with an NCAA provisional mark of 56.16m. He was also second in the shot put at 16.07m and finished sixth in the discus with a throw 47.64m.
 
Ben Ryan had a strong day finishing second in the 200m at 23.21, Will Hanson finished second in the 110m hurdles at 14.86, while Zach Jones finished fourth in the 400m with a time of 51.56.
 
Hanson also recorded a second place toss in the javelin at 50.92.
 
Zach Jones reached a personal best mark of 6.83m to place fourth in the long jump.
 
The Southwest Minnesota State track & field teams continue competition next Saturday, April 16, at the Concordia-St. Paul Invite.
