TUCSON, Ariz. – The Southwest Minnesota State baseball team closed out its 10-game trip at the Tucson Invitational with a 17-5 drubbing of Dakota State University on Sunday morning.

SMSU concluded its trip with a 5-5 record and will open Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play next Saturday and Sunday with a four-game series at Concordia-St. Paul.

The Mustangs rapped out 10 hits and took advantage of six walks and five hit by pitches by Trojan pitching in the victory.

Shane Sellner finished 2 for 5 and drove in a career-high five RBIs to pace the SMSU attack.
Cole VanderBeek collected pair of hits and finished with three RBIs, while
Tanner Strommen and
Jayden Fleck both added two hits apiece.

Jared Tschetter (1-1) picked up his first collegiate victory allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits in six innings with four strikeouts and one walk.

SMSU stormed out of the gate in the top of the first inning scoring eight runs on seven hits. DSU cut the deficit to 8-3 after four innings, but SMSU put the game away with a five-run fifth and then added four more runs in the seventh to end the game via run-rule.Â
