SMSU swimming and diving to host UMary on Friday

MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women's swimming & diving team (1-1) is set to host NSIC competitor, UMary (1-2), at 5 p.m. on Friday inside the Don Palm Natatorium. 
 
Friday's meet is the second of three home meets SMSU will host. 
 
SMSU opened the inaugural season last weekend with a dual at Minnesota State on Friday night and hosted Iowa Lakes Community College on Saturday afternoon. 
 
In the first-ever NCAA Division II meet at Minnesota State last Friday, SMSU took home one first place finish in the 192-74 loss. 
 
SMSU's Annika Freiburger won the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:25.68. 
 
In the 16-event meet, MacKenzie Kallevig finished with a time of 1:58.68 to take home second place in the 200-yard freestyle and second in the 50 yard freestyle at 25.61. 
 
Addi Schroeder also placed second in the 50-yard breaststroke at 21.85 and was second in the 100 yard freestyle at 56.27. 
 
In 1-meter diving, Megan Nelson earned a third-place finish with a score of 186.2. 

SMSU then earned a 118-33 victory over Iowa Lakes Community College on Saturday with several first-place finishes. Kallevig won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 25.75 the 100 yard freestyle in 56.28. 
 
Addi Schroeder won the 200-yard freestyle hitting the wall at 2:03.97 and won the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:09.64.
 
Madison Hubert won the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:04.37, while the 400 yard freestyle relay team of Hubert, Kristen JohnstonEllie Anselment and Schroeder won with a time of 4:09.8.
 
SMSU will host UMary, who was picked to finish fifth in the NSIC Preseason Poll. UMary is 1-2 this season after falling to Sioux Falls, 303-119, to open the season and a 235-189 loss to Augustana on Oct. 5.  UMary then claimed a 292-128 over Northern State later on Oct. 5 to finish the Quad Dual in Bismarck, N.D. 
 
UMary's dual versus MSU Moorhead last weekend was postponed due to weather. 
 
SMSU will next travel to St. Mary's in Winona, Minn., on Saturday, Nov. 3, at 1 p.m. The Mustangs will return home on Friday, Nov. 15, to face Northern State at 5 p.m. at the Don Palm Natatorium.
