THIS WEEK
•The Southwest Minnesota State University men's basketball team (2-7, 0-5 NSIC) looks to snap a six-game losing streak and end the season on a high not, hosting a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference game this Friday and Saturday versus the University of Sioux Falls (6-4, 4-4 NSIC) inside the R/A Facility. Friday's game will start at 6 p.m., while Saturday's game is slated for 2 p.m.
•SMSU, which has had seven NSIC division games canceled this season, earned its last victory on Jan. 8 versus Minot State in Marshall.
•USF has lost three straight and four of six since resuming to play following a two-week pause due to COVID-19 protocols. USF won its first four games to start the season prior to having the two weekends canceled. USF is currently in fifth place in the NSIC South Division standings. The top four teams in each division qualify for the NSIC Tournament.
•SMSU will honor its two seniors,

SERIES HISTORY VERSUS SIOUX FALLS
•SMSU and Sioux Falls meet for the 36th and 37th time with SMSU leading 21-14 in a series that started in 1968-69.

Brad Bigler, the all-time wins leader in program history, is in his 12th season as head coach and has an overall record of 189-152, including 127-118 in NSIC play.
•The 2012-13 and 2016-17 NSIC Coach of the Year, Bigler has led SMSU to seven winning seasons, including one 28-win season, one 25-win season and two 19-win seasons.
•SMSU won NSIC Tournament titles in 2012 and 2017 and won back-to-back NSIC South Division championships in 2016-17 and 2017-18.
•SMSU has played in five NSIC Tournament championship games during his tenure (2010, 2012, 2017, 2018, 2019).

ABOUT SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE
•Southwest Minnesota State is 2-7 overall and 0-5 NSIC and is currently on a six-game losing skid since defeating Minot State on Jan. 8. SMSU lost two home games last weekend to NSIC South leading Wayne State, 82-54 and 74-56.
•SMSU shot just 38 percent in both losses and were outrebounded 40-22 on Friday and 36-29 on Saturday.

Jake Phipps led the team in scoring on Friday night with 11 points on 4 of 5 from the field, while
Cliff McCray and
Sam Schwartz each added 10 points. McCray also dished out five assists and grabbed five rebounds.
•In Saturday's loss, Schwartz scored a career-high 13 points on 6 of 10 from the field with
Grant Kramer adding 10 points with three 3-pointers.
Nick Dufault also connected on three 3-pointers and closed the game with nine points. McCray led the team in assists with seven and also had four steals.
•Kramer, who missed the first six games with an injury, is averaging 8.7 ppg and has made six 3-pointers in three games.
•For the season, Dufault leads the team averaging 12.8 ppg with a team-high 23 3-pointers. Evans is scoring 11.4 ppg, averaging 4.8 rpg, has connected on 20 3-pointers and has racked up a team-high 28 steals.
•McCray, who has missed two games, has dished out a team-high 32 assists and also leads the squad with 5.9 rpg.
•For the season, SMSU is shooting 44 percent from the field, 41 percent from 3-point range, 58 percent from the free throw line and is minus-2.7 in rebound margin. SMSU is averaging 63 points per game, while opponents average 75 ppg.

SCOUTING SIOUX FALLS
•Sioux Falls is 6-4 overall, 4-4 NSIC, has lost three straight, including two last weekend at home to Augustana, 67-65 and 75-66.
•Senior forward Teathloach Pal is averaging a team-high 14.6 ppg and is also the team leader with 8.4 rpg. He has made a team-high 61 field goals and has a team-high 16 blocked shots.
•Sophomore guard Jack Thompson averages 11.7 ppg with a team-high 15 steals and is tied for the team-high with nine 3-pointers.
•Junior guard Chase Grinde is scoring 9.5 ppg and has nine 3-pointers with a team-high 19 assists.

BYERS EARNS ALL-NSIC IN 2019-20
•Senior
Kenny Byers, who is sitting out this season, was named second team All-NSIC last season.
•Byers led SMSU in nearly every offensive category averaging a team-high 16.3 points per game and ranked first on the team with 6.9 rebounds per game.
•He also was the team leader in both assists (95) and steals (43) and closed the season shooting 44.9 percent (180 of 401) from the field and 70.5 percent (86 of 122) from the free throw line.
•His eight double-doubles ranked fifth among all NSIC players during the regular season.
•In NSIC play, Byers ranked fifth in the league in steals (1.5), 10th in scoring (17.3), 12th in rebounding (6.7), 12th in assists (3.5), 16th in assist/turnover ratio (1.1), 18th in field goal percentage (45.0) and 19th in free throw percentage (75.2).
NSIC SOUTH VS. NSIC NORTH
•SMSU will not have any conference games versus NSIC North Division teams in 2020-21.
