ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Southwest Minnesota State women's swimming & diving team had its final tune-up prior to next month's conference championships splitting a pair of duals at the Northern State Triangular at the Aberdeen YMCA on Friday. SMSU defeated Concordia-St. Paul, 156-47, but lost to Northern State, 128-92.
Annika Freiburger was one of a handful of first-place finishers for the Mustangs during the meet, touching the wall first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:33.98, while
MacKenzie Kallevig earned a first place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.47.
Sarah McDonald picked up first place in 1-meter diving with a total of 178.1 points, while SMSU's 400-yard freestyle relay team of Kallevig,
Grace Busch,
Natalie Bohnert and
Maija Geier captured first place with a time of 3:44.28.
Kallevig also earned second place in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:34.11 with Geier also placing second in the 200-yard backstroke at 2:14.27. Kendyle Near finished second in the 100-yard IM with a time of 1:05.06, while Bohnert touched the wall in second place in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:59.35.
Southwest Minnesota State will next compete at the NSIC Championships on Feb. 9-12 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
