MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Southwest Minnesota State women's golf team had a long first day at the Midwest Classic on Monday with all nine golfers playing at least 20 holes during a blustery day at the par 72 Mozingo Lake Golf Course.
Due to poor weather forecast for Monday and Tuesday, tournament officials announced on Monday morning all 17 teams would play as many holes as possible of the 36-hole tournament on Monday. The second round is expected to resume at approximately 12 p.m. on Tuesday.
SMSU closed the opening round tied for eighth place with a score of 347. Augustana was the leader following 18 holes with a score of 323, holding a three-shot lead over Nebraska-Kearney.
Sally Gallagher led the Mustangs through 18 holes with an 11-over 83 with one birdie and seven pars, which was tied for 12
th overall in the 98-play field.
Courtni Frank finished tied for 21
st after round one at 13-over 85 with three birdies and three pars.
Danielle Podoll had seven pars and one birdie through 18 holes to sit in a tie for 40
th at 16-over 88, while
Lauryn Driscoll was tied for 60
th with one birdie and three pars on her way to a 19-over 91.
Jacqueline Gossen was tied for 64
th after 18 holes following a round of 20-over 92 with three pars.
Four Mustangs played as individuals with
Berkley Steffen and
Meghan Pundsack both shooting a score of 20-over 92. Steffen had five pars and one birdie, while Pundsack carded five pars.
Natalie Bohnert and
Ashley Trongard both shot a 21-over 93 through 18 holes with Bohnert closing with three pars and Trongard finishing with six pars.
Juliana Botero Molina from Nebraska-Kearney was the individual leader through round one with a 4-over 76.
