•The Southwest Minnesota State University men's basketball team (15-11) continues play in the NSIC/Sanford Health Tournament on Saturday afternoon playing taking on No. 5 (NABC) Augustana University (23-2) in the quarterfinals with tip-off set for 1:30 p.m. at Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D.
•SMSU is the No. 5 seed from the South Division, while AU is the No. 1 seed from the South Division.
•SMSU advanced to Saturday's game following an 89-75 road victory over No. 4N Minot State on Wednesday.
•The winner of Saturday's game will advance to the semifinals on Monday to face either No. 2N MSU Moorhead or No. 6N St. Cloud State at 1:30 p.m. at the Sanford Pentagon.
•The championship game is set for Tuesday, March 1, at 4 p.m.
•AU, which received a first-round bye, has defeated SMSU twice this season, winning 103-74 in Marshall on Dec. 4 and earning a 74-62 win last Saturday in Sioux Falls. AU is ranked No. 1 in this week's NCAA Central Region rankings released on Wednesday.

SMSU NSIC TOURNAMENT HISTORY
•Since the NSIC Tournament started in 2000, SMSU is 27-18 all-time with two championships (2012 & 2017).

SMSU HEAD COACH BRAD BIGLER
•
Brad Bigler, the all-time wins leader in program history, is in his 13th season as head coach and has an overall record of 205-164, including 138-129 in NSIC play. He earned his 200th career victory on Jan. 22, 2022, versus Bemidji State.
•The 2012-13 and 2016-17 NSIC Coach of the Year, Bigler has led SMSU to seven winning seasons, including one 28-win season, one 25-win season and two 19-win seasons.
•SMSU won NSIC Tournament titles in 2012 and 2017 and won back-to-back NSIC South Division championships in 2016-17 and 2017-18.
•SMSU has played in five NSIC Tournament championship games during his tenure (2010, 2012, 2017, 2018, 2019).
•SMSU's 11th head coach, Bigler spent six seasons (2003-09) as an assistant coach at SMSU, including the last three as associate head coach.

BYERS NAMED ALL-NSIC SECOND TEAM
•Senior
Kenny Byers was named All-NSIC second team on Thursday. It's the second time in his career he has earned All-NSIC second team accolades (2019-20).
•Byers averaging a team-high 15.2 points per game and ranks second with 6.2 rebounds per game. He is shooting 45.4 percent (154 of 339) from the field with a team-leading 154 field goals made and is shooting 80.9 percent (76 of 94) from the free throw line.
•In NSIC play this season, Byers ranked 11th in the league in free throw pct. (79.2), 13th in steals (1.3), 15th in rebounding (6.5), 16th in assists (3.1), 17th in scoring (15.4), 19th in field goal pct. (45.8) and 19th in assist/turnover ratio (1.1).

MUSTANGS OPEN TOURNAMENT WITH BIG ROAD WIN
•SMSU connected on a season-high 16 3-pointers with the Mustangs'
Dunwa Omot scoring a career-high 28 points to pace SMSU to an 89-75 victory over Minot State on Wednesday night.
•SMSU made 16 of 31 3-pointers and finished the game shooting 56 percent (31 of 55) from the field.
•Omot closed the game making 10 of 12 field goals and made a career-high six 3-pointers.
