ST. PETER, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State women's tennis team closed its weekend on Saturday suffering a 4-3 loss to Upper Iowa in NSIC action held at the Swanson Tennis Center.
SMSU, which lost 6-1 to Winona State on Friday night, drops to 9-4 overall, 3-3 NSIC.
In Saturday's loss, UIU captured the doubles point winning a pair of tight matches at both No. 1 and No. 2.
Kristina Vuksanovic and
Courtenay Leonard lost 7-5 at No. 1, while
Joana Reis Indio and
Maja Louisa Harck suffered a 6-4 loss at No. 2. SMSU's
Roz Oye and
Cora Delich earned a 6-3 victory at No. 3.
In singles play, the Mustangs earned three points with Leonard earning a 7-6, 6-2 victory at No. 2, Harck picking up a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4, while
Daniela Poulakidas cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 6. The Peacocks (6-4, 3-2 NSIC) however earned three close victories at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 singles to earn the victory.
SMSU will now step out of NSIC play for the next month with seven non-conference matches on deck. The Mustangs will return to the court on March 3 with a match at Northwest Missouri State before facing Missouri Western State on March 4.
