ST. PETER, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women's tennis team returned to Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action on Saturday afternoon earning a big 5-2 victory over Minnesota State University inside the Swanson Tennis Center on the campus of Gustavus Adolphus College. SMSU would also play Gustavus later in the day and dropped a 7-0 decision.
Following Saturday's split, SMSU is now 12-10 overall, 4-3 NSIC.
In the win over MSU, the Mustangs would earn the doubles point taking two of three matches.
Kristina Vuksanovic and
Maja Louisa Harck combined for a 7-5 win at No. 2, while
Roz Oye and
Cora Delich cruised to a 6-0 victory at No. 3.
In singles play, SMSU would lose at both No. 1 and No. 2, but would earn victories in the other four matches. Vuksanovic won 6-1, 7-5 at No. 3; Harck picked up a 7-6, 6-1 win at No. 4; Delich won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5, while
Faith Madikwe recorded a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 6.
In the loss to GAC, the Mustangs lost all three matches in doubles play and were swept in five of the six singles matches. Madikwe, lost a tough 2-6, 6-1, 1-0 (13-11) match at No. 6.
SMSU has four NSIC matches remaining in the regular season. The Mustangs return to the court on April 2-3 in Moorhead, Minn., with two big matches versus MSU Moorhead (April 2) and UMary (April 3) inside the Capital Racquet & Fitness Center.
