TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Jamestown snapped a tie game with a four-run fifth inning and went on to earn a 10-3 victory over Southwest Minnesota State in college baseball on Monday at the Tucson Invitational at the Kino Sports Complex.

SMSU, which defeated UJ on Sunday, dropped its second in a row and is 2-5 on the season. UJ, which defeated Bemidji State on Sunday night, has now won two straight and is 8-6 overall.

The Jimmies scored the game's first run in the top of the first on a lead-off triple and throwing error.

The Mustangs quickly answered in the home half of the frame as
Robbie Smith drilled a lead-off double off the left field wall and scored two batters later on a ground ball hit by
Jaxon Haase that was misplayed.

UJ went back in front in the fourth taking advantage of a lost fly ball in the sun for a lead-off double which later scored on a sac fly.

SMSU once again had an answer as
Owen Latendresse ripped a one-out single, stole second and later scored on a two-out single by
Caleb Gardow to tie the game at 2-2 after four.

The game however wasn't tied for long as the Jimmies countered with a four-run fifth—highlighted by a three-run homer—to build a 6-2 advantage. Â

SMSU cut the lead in half in the bottom of the fifth as Smith singled and came around to score on a two-out run-scoring base hit.

The Jimmies would push across a run in the sixth and then put the game away with a three-run eighth.

SMSU closed the game with 10 hits as Smith, Nett and Latendresse each collected two hits, while Smith scored twice. Â

Hayden Molva (0-1) made the start on the mound for SMSU and tossed 4 2/3 innings, allowing six runs (five earned) on 11 hits, while recording three strikeouts and walking one. SMSU used three freshmen pitchers in relief with
Brady Petron tossing the final two innings allowing no runs with a pair of strikeouts.
