SMITHVILLE, Mo. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women's golf team carded a second-round score of 59-over 347 on Saturday and after 36 holes of play the Mustangs sit in a tie for sixth place with a 114-over 690 at 13-team Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championship. The 54-hole championship is being played at the par-72, 5,930-yard, Paradise Pointe-Outlaw Course.
The final round begins on Sunday with 9 a.m. shotgun start.
Playing in strong wind conditions for a second straight day the Mustangs battled and remained in sixth place and trail Minnesota State by four shots and Winona State by five.
Courtni Frank is in eighth place overall at 20-over 164 after shooting SMSU's low-round for the second consecutive day with a 12-over 84, which included eight pars.
Danielle Podoll rebounded on Saturday with a 14-over 86 with a pair of birdies and six pars. She shot a 93 on Friday and is tied for 32
nd overall at 35-over 179.
Ashley Trongard is tied for 18
th overall at 26-over 170. She had seven pars on Saturday and finished with a 16-over 88.
Sally Gallagher recorded a 17-over 89 in the second round with four pars and one birdie and is tied for 25
th at 33-over 177.
Jacqueline Gossen finished with three pars on Saturday to card a 22-over 94 and is 48
th overall at 22-over 187.
Augustana continues as the team leader with a score of 58-over 634. Wayne State is in second place at 97-over 673, followed by Upper Iowa at 105-over 681. Abbey Kurmel from Wayne State is the individual leader at 8-over 152 and holds a two-shot lead over Shannon McCormick.
