BISMARCK, N.D. -- The Southwest Minnesota State University women's tennis team earned a big 4-3 victory over the University of Mary on Sunday in NSIC action at the Capital Racquet and Fitness Center.
The victory pushes SMSU's conference record to 6-3 and improves the squad to 14-10 overall. The 14 victories is the highest single-season win total since SMSU moved to NCAA Division II in 1996 and is the most wins since the 1993 team won 14 matches.
UMary (7-6, 6-3 NSIC) won all three doubles matches to earn the team point, but SMSU rallied to win four singles matches to secure the victory.
Courtenay Leonard earned a come-from-behind 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles for the Mustangs, while
Maja Louisa Harck picked up a hard-fought win at No. 4 by scores of 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.
Cora Delich secured a win at No. 5 in straight sets at 6-2, 6-3, while
Faith Madikwe earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6.
SMSU concludes the regular season next weekend with two matches in Sartell, Minn. The Mustangs face Minnesota Duluth on Saturday before facing St. Cloud State on Sunday.
