SARTELL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women's tennis team defeated Minnesota Duluth 6-1 for yet another conference victory at Sta-Fit Tennis Center.
The victory pushes SMSU to a 15-10 overall record, including 7-3 in NSIC play. The seven conference victories bring them within one win of the program record for most NSIC wins in a season, set last season.
The Mustangs opened the match with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles spot to earn the team points, with the combination of
Courtenay Leonard and
Joana Reis Indio winning 6-0 at No. 1 and the
Roz Oye/
Cora Delich tandem winning 6-2 at No. 3.
In singles play, Leonard earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 2,
Kristina Vuksanovic picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3, and
Maja Louisa Harck would put the match on ice with a 6-2, 2-6, 10-6 victory at No. 4. Delich would keep the run going at No. 5 with a 6-0, 6-2 victory, and
Faith Madikwe would close the match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 6.
SMSU concludes the regular season with a match against St. Cloud State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
