BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Southwest Minnesota State University track & field teams returned to action as they continued their indoor season on Friday competing at the SDSU D2 Open at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.
Tyler Smith set the SMSU indoor record for fastest time in the 200-meter dash, completing the race in just 22.31, Smith placed fourth in the event. Smith also finished third in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.10.
Stella Anderson completed the 60-meter dash in a time of 8.05 to finish second in the event.
Sierra Clifford placed fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.26 while
Emily Van Roekel finished in 1:01.82 to place ninth.
Clifford also placed third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.98, teammate
Lexy Gilbert also put in a strong performance in the 200, finishing the race in 27.10 to place seventh.
Kyra Kusnierek and
Macie Langstraat each performed well in the 1000-meter run, finishing in 3:11.83 and 3:17.84 to place fourth and sixth respectively.
Carl Swedzinski placed fifth in the men's weight throw with a distance of 16.28 meters.
Nadia Sanford (12.56m) and
Emily Lorentz (11.47m) finished fifth and sixth respectively in the women's shot put.
The Mustangs had a pair of top 10 finishes in the men's long jump with
Junior Kandolo earning fifth place with a jump of 6.28m and
Nathan Lear placing seventh with a 6.09m jump.
Hannah Koepfinger placed seventh in the women's long jump with a jump of 4.75m, eighth in the 1 mile run with a time of 5:33.73 and fifth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.63.
Tyler Nebelung placed fourth in the men's shot put, Nebelung put the shot 14.49m.
Hunter Smith placed fifth in the men's pole vault with a height of 4.25m.
McKallen Smith placed seventh in the men's high jump with a jump of 1.85m.
SMSU will return to competition next weekend on Jan. 27-28, at the Mark Shuck Open & Multi in Mankato.
