THIS WEEK
•The Southwest Minnesota State University men's basketball team (13-6, 9-5 NSIC) opens a four-game road swing this weekend closing regular season play versus the NSIC North Division with a pair of games on Friday and Saturday.
•SMSU will face Bemidji State University (13-7, 8-6 NSIC) on Friday night with tip-off slated for 5:30 p.m. inside the BSU Gymnasium before facing the University of Minnesota Crookston (1-19, 0-14 NSIC) on Saturday with game time slated for 3:30 p.m. at Lysaker Gymnasium.
•SMSU has won nine of its last 12 games and is currently tied for first place in the NSIC South Division standings.
•BSU is fourth in the NSIC North Division standings, while UMC is in eighth place.
•After last weekend's two wins over St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth, SMSU is a combined 47-29 versus NSIC North Division teams in conference play since divisions were introduced prior to the 2012-13 season. Through nine-plus seasons of conference play (Jan. 22, 2023), the NSIC South holds a 343-259 advantage over NSIC North teams since divisions were formed. SMSU HEAD COACH BRAD BIGLER

Brad Bigler, the all-time wins leader in program history, is in his 14th season as head coach and has an overall record of 218-171, including 147-134 in NSIC play.
•The 2012-13 and 2016-17 NSIC Coach of the Year, Bigler has led SMSU to seven winning seasons, including one 28-win season, one 25-win season and two 19-win seasons.
•SMSU won NSIC Tournament titles in 2012 and 2017 and won back-to-back NSIC South Division championships in 2016-17 and 2017-18.
•SMSU has played in five NSIC Tournament championship games during his tenure (2010, 2012, 2017, 2018, 2019).

OMOT NAMED NSIC SOUTH PLAYER OF THE WEEK
•SMSU sophomore guard
Dunwa Omot was named the NSIC South Division Player of the Week on Monday following his play in a pair of SMSU home victories this past weekend. He averaged 27.5 points and 7.0 rebounds, while shooting 54.8 percent (17 of 31) from the field, including 7 of 14 from 3-point range to help SMSU earn victories over St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth. He also finished the weekend making 14 of 15 free throw attempts, while recording three assists, three steals and two blocked shots.

Dunwa Omot scored 27 and 28 points in SMSU's two victories last weekend. He is the first Mustang to score 25 or more points in back-to-back games since Ryan Bruggeman reached the mark eight straight times during the 2018-19 season.

•Omot ranks first in team history in free throw pct. (88.0, 103 of 17) and is second in 3-point field goal pct. (48.1, 87 of 181). Omot's 56.6 3-point field goal pct. (56 of 99) last season set a program single-season record, while his 87.5 free throw pct. ranks seventh in team single-season history.
•Phipps grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds at Wayne State on Dec. 3. He is the first SMSU player to grab 15 rebounds in a game since

MUSTANGS EARN TWO BIG HOME VICTORIES
•SMSU capped a 3-1 home stand last weekend with victories over St. Cloud State (69-58) and Minnesota Duluth (69-63).
•In the win over SCSU, the Mustangs used stifling defense limiting the Huskies to shooting 32.8 percent from the field, including 23.3 percent in the second half.
•SMSU was led by
Dunwa Omot, who scored 27 points and tied a career-high with seven rebounds.
•In the victory over UMD, Omot tied a career-high with 28 points on 10 of 17 shooting with four 3-pointers and tied a career-high with seven rebounds.
