MARSHALL, Minn. - The Southwest Minnesota State University women's swimming & diving team opened its 2023-24 home schedule against the University of Sioux Falls Cougars Saturday afternoon inside the Don Palm Natatorium.
USF (3-0 overall, 3-0 NSIC) won the dual meet against SMSU (0-1 overall, 0-1 NSIC) by a score of 144-87.
Carla Nevi had a standout first home meet. Nevi took first place in both the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:12.07 and in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.31.
Maija Geier took second place in the 50-yard freestyle finishing with a time of 24.70, finishing only one one-hundredth of a second behind the first-place finisher. Geier also placed second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.54.
Ellie Wilber placed second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:00.62.
Maddy Storm placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:09.63.
The 200-yard medley relay team of Nevi, Storm,
Heather Arlen and Geier finished in a time of 1:50.44 to place second.
The Mustangs will return to action on Oct. 21 when they travel to Mankato for the Minnesota State tri meet against the Minnesota State Mavericks and the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears starting at 1 p.m.
