WEST FARGO, N.D. – The final day of the 2023 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Championship concluded on Saturday night with Southwest Minnesota recording 154 points during the four-day meet to finish in seventh place at the nine-team championship held inside the Hulbert Aquatic Center.
The seventh-place finish is the highest in the four-year history of the program after three straight finishes of eighth place.
Augustana won the team championship with 979.5 points, while Minnesota State finished in second place with 969 points.
Natalie Bohnert advanced to the 'A' finals of the 200-yard backstroke with a prelim time of 2:06.22 on Saturday morning. She closed the finals with a time of 2:05.34 to finish in fifth place and earn 14 team points.
Bohnert placed sixth in the 100-yard backstroke and seventh in the 200-yard butterfly on Friday night.
Olivia Sholl competed in the 'B' finals of the 200-yard breaststroke and finished 14th overall with a time of 2:30.543 to earn three team points. Sholl finished with a prelim time of 2:32.90.
Addi Schroeder competed in the 'C' finals of the 100-yard individual medley and recorded a time of 1:03.65 to finish 18th.
MacKenzie Kallevig earned SMSU two points with a 15
th place time of 18:51.08 in the 1,650-yard freestyle.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Kallevig, Schroeder, Bohnert and
Maija Geier placed 10
th at 3:37.77 to record 14 points.
A big highlight from the weekend came on Friday night when senior
Juliana Villa was recognized with the NSIC's Elite 18 award for swimming & diving. The award goes to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NSIC's 18 Championships.
