COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State University indoor track & field teams concluded action at the Saint John's/College of Saint Ben's Invitational with one school record and several first-place finishers on Saturday. The meet was held at The Donald McNeely Spectrum.
SMSU's women's 4x200 relay team of
Lexy Gilbert,
Emily Van Roekel,
Taytum Klink and
Sierra Clifford, set a school record with a first-place time of 1:47.65.
Klink also won the long jump with a mark of 5.24, while teammate
Shealyn Tom captured first-place in the pole vault with a height of 3.33m. Sarena Schwartz finished in second place in the pole vault at 3.03m.
Clifford finished second in the 400-meters at 58.87, while Van Roekel was fourth at 1:02.39.
Emily Lorentz was second in the shot put with a toss of 13.07m, with teammate
Nadia Sanford in third place at 13.01m.
Stella Anderson claimed a third-place time of 8.04 in the 60-meters with Gilbert right behind at 8.10 for fourth place.
For the men's team,
Carl Swedzinski earned a first-place toss in the weight throw at 17.57m with
Tyler Nebelung finishing in third place at 16.25m. Nebelung recorded a toss of 14.85m in the shot put to claim second place with Swedzinski finishing fourth at 14.41m.
Max Schmitt ran 8.97 in the 60-meter hurdles to capture another first-place mark for the Mustangs.
McKallen Smith closed in second place in the high jump at 1.83.
Tyler Smith also finished in second place in the 60-meters at 7.07 and was second in the 200-meters at 22.86.
SMSU will have its final meet of the indoor season prior to the conference championships next Friday, Feb. 17 at Minnesota State Maverick Invite. The NSIC Championships will take place on Feb. 24-25 in Mankato.
