WINONA, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women's tennis team suffered a hard-fought 4-3 loss to Winona State on Sunday afternoon at the Winona Tennis Center.
WSU, which improved to 7-4 overall, 4-1 NSIC, picked up the doubles point winning two of three matches. SMSU's
Joana Reis Indio and
Maura Wiens earned the lone doubles win at No. 2 by a score of 7-6.
WSU earned two team points with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, but SMSU would secure three singles victories.
Gabriela Almeida won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3,
Faith Madikwe earned a 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 win at No. 4, while
Camila Paccieri had a tough battle, but came through with a 7-6, 7-6 victory at No. 5. The Warriors would secure the overall victory with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 6.
SMSU, which defeated Upper Iowa on Saturday, is now 2-11 overall, 1-3 NSIC. The Mustangs return to action next Saturday with a conference match versus MSU Moorhead in St. Peter, Minn.
