ROGERS, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women's tennis team earned a big 6-1 victory over Minnesota Duluth on Friday inside the Rogers Tennis Center.
 
SMSU improves to 4-12 overall, 3-4 NSIC, while UMD drops to 8-4 overall, 5-3 NSIC.
 
The Mustangs swept all three doubles matches to earn the team point. 
Courtenay Leonard and 
Gabriela Almeida won 6-2 at No. 1, 
Maura Wiens and 
Faith Madikwe earned a 6-3 win at No. 2, while 
Joana Reis Indio and 
Camila Paccieri secured a 6-2 win at No. 3.
 
SMSU won five of six singles matches to record the team victory. Almeida earned a hard-fought 7-5, 5-7, 6-3 win at No. 2, while Madikwe also picked-up a three-set win at No. 4 by scores of 7-6, 2-6, 6-4. Reis Indio cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 3, Paccieri won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5, while 
Roz Oye recorded a 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6.
 
SMSU returns to the court on Saturday with a match versus St. Cloud State starting at 1 p.m. at the Rogers Tennis Center.
