ATLANTA – The Southwest Minnesota State University women's basketball team has been named to the 2022-23 Women's Basketball Coaches Association Academic Division II Top 25 where they ranked 20th, the WCBA announced on Tuesday.
The Mustangs posted a 3.695 cumulative grade point average for the 2022-23 academic year.
"The WBCA is pleased to recognize those women's basketball programs that have committed themselves to excellence on the court and in the classroom," said WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew. "The 119 teams we honor this year strive to achieve all-around success and we commend their efforts. Congratulations!
SMSU had 7 student-athletes names to the NSIC All-Academic team this past season. Senior
Jenna Borchers, along with juniors
Madison Gehloff,
Sam Wall,
Sarah Conlon and
Hannah Parsley, and sophomore
Bri Stoltzman were named NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence for compiling a GPA of 3.60 or higher. Sophomore
Peyton Blandin was named Academic All-NSIC with a GPA of 3.20 or better.
Along with their NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence honors, Borchers, Gehloff, Parsley and Wall were named to the 2023 Academic All-District® women's basketball teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognizing the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.
SMSU finished 19-11 overall last season and advanced to the NSIC semifinals for the first time since 2003.
