MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team lost a dual to the Augustana Vikings by a score of 24-13 on Friday night in the PE gym. 

Augustana started strong, picking up victories at 125, 133 and 141 lbs. 

The Mustangs got on the board after a 5-2 decision victory by Luke Peterson over Augustana's Kyle Boeke. 

The Vikings then won at 157 and 165 and 174. 

Adam Sylvester put the Mustangs back in the win column at 184, after defeating Danny Reynolds by a 7-4 decision. 

At 197, Caden Steffen matched up with fellow top 10 wrestler, Max Ramberg. Steffen had a strong first round, taking the early lead and holding it, on his way to a 9-6 decision. 

Finally, at 285, Jacob Dykes shut out Zach Peterson on his way to a 9-0 major decision victory. 

"That was an excellent showing against a team who was in the national finals for duals last weekend," said third-year head coach Chayse Jackson. "We won 4 matches and had a chance to pick up 6. With 8 ranked wrestlers, we had to show up. And tonight we did. We were aggressive and pushing the tempo all night. Several guys saw wrestlers they had lost to before and beat them or closed the gap. The improvement is there, and the second semester is the perfect time to continue our growth. A short weekend off, and back after it for two duals next week!
