Women's Swimming & Diving

Mustang swimming & diving hosts MSU and CSP on Saturday

MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women's swimming & diving team opens its home season this Saturday with a double-dual meet versus Minnesota State and Concordia-St. Paul. The meet begins at 1 p.m. inside The Don Palm Natatorium on the SMSU campus.
 
Saturday's meet will feature 15 individual or relay events along with 3-meter and 1-meter diving.
 
SMSU is 0-8 all-time versus MSU and 6-0 versus CSP in dual or double-dual meets in program history.
 
SMSU last competed on Sept. 28 competing at the Northern State Triangular with SMSU defeating Northern State, 122-101, while suffering a 116-105 loss to UMary.
 
SMSU's 200-yard medley relay team of Carla Nevi, Maddy Storm, Heather Arlen and Maija Geier captured first place with a time of 1:52.04.
 
The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Geier, Lexi Weems, Maggie Johnson and Nevi finished with a first-place time of 3:43.73. 
 
Storm earned first place in the 200-yard IM touching the wall at 2:17.83 and picked up a first-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:08.07. Geier also picked-up a first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:01.02.
 
Aydrial Taylor scored 195.52 to finish second in 1-meter diving, while Bre Sanneman closed in third place with 172.35.
 
On Sept. 27, SMSU opened the season capturing first place at the three-team Northern State Relay Meet. SMSU racked up 162 points to win the meet followed by UMary in second place at 140 points and Northern State with 106 points.
 
A total of 12 events were contested on the night with SMSU earning four first-place finishes.
 
Taylor won the 3-meter diving with a score 115.4 to capture 14 team points. SMSU's 3x100 breaststroke relay of Olivia Johnson, Shannon Bailey and Storm earned a first-place time of 3:37.02 to secure 14 points, while the 200-yard freestyle relay of Geier, Emily Quanbeck, Lauren Spencer and Weems finished with a first-place time of 1:43.60 to earn 14 points. SMSU's final first place winner was the 400-yard medley, 100 IM with Nevi, Olivia Johnson, Arlen and Storm closing with a time of 4:16.62.
 
The 3x100 butterfly relay of Quincie Klein, Kaelyn DeRoche and Arlen finished second at 3:16.58. Nevi, Spencer and Maggie Johnson closed in second place at 3:08.07, while Nevi, Storm, Arlen and Maggie Johnson picked up a second-place time in the 400-yard medley relay at 4:08.89.
 
Following Saturday's meet, SMSU will return to action on Nov. 2 at MSU Moorhead.
