ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The Southwest Minnesota State women's basketball team open non-conference play with an 82-72 win over Washburn (Kan.) on Friday afternoon.
SMSU improves to 1-0 overall, while Washburn (Kan.) drops 0-1 to start the season.
Bri Stoltzman led the Mustang offense with 28 points on 10 of 13 shooting with a pair of 3-pointers and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Peyton Blandin added 17 points on 4 of 9 shooting and recorded five rebounds.
Audrey Swanson recorded 16 points on 5 of 10 shooting.
Natalie Nielsen rounded out the top Mustang attackers with 10 points on 1 of 3 shooting, adding three rebounds.
The Mustangs finished the game shooting 50 percent (25 of 50) from the field including 88 percent (29 of 33) from the free throw line.
Washburn was led by Yiibari Nwidadah's 22 points on 9 of 14 shooting and grabbed 5 rebounds. The Ichabods closed the night shooting 43 percent (29 of 68) from the field, including 6 of 15 on 3-pointers.
