THE LOOK AHEAD
• The No. 5 seed Southwest Minnesota State University women's basketball team (18-11), faces off with the No. 4 seed Northern State (20-8) in the quarterfinals of the NSIC Tournament on Sunday, March 3, with start time scheduled for 4:30 p.m. inside the Sanford Pentagon, in Sioux Falls, S.D.
• The Mustangs have advanced to the NSIC quarterfinals for a third consecutive season.
• The winner will advance to the semifinals and play either the No. 1 seed Minnesota State or the No. 8 seed MSU Moorhead on Monday, with tip-off scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
• SMSU defeated NSU 73-53 earlier this season in Marshall.

SMSU IN THE NSIC TOURNAMENT
• Since the NSIC Tournament started in 2000, SMSU is 12-18 all-time with one championship title in 2002.
• SMSU advanced to the semifinals for the fifth time last season, and played in the first three championship games (2000, 2001, 2002).
• The Mustangs are 7-1 at home, 0-11 on the road and 5-6 in neutral site tournament games.
• SMSU played St. Cloud State in the quarterfinals last season inside the Sanford Pentagon, edging out the Huskies by a score of 76-68.
• In the semifinals, Minnesota State defeated SMSU 100-82, ending SMSU's deepest NSIC Tournament run since the 2002-03 season.

NORTHERN STATE SERIES HISTORY
• SMSU and NSU will meet for the 72nd time with the Wolves leading 53-18 in a series that began in 1969-70.
• SMSU is 1-3 all-time against the Wolves in the NSIC Tournament.
• SMSU defeated NSU earlier season in Marshall 73-53 and has split the previous four meetings with the Wolves 2-2.
• SMSU head coach Tom Webb is 2-5 all-time versus NSU.

SMSU HEAD COACH TOM WEBB
• Tom Webb is in his eighth season as head coach at SMSU with a 95-113 record, including 72-92 in NSIC play. 
• Webb is 186-236 overall in his 16th season as head coach at the Division II level after compiling a record of 91-123 in eight seasons (2008-16) as head coach at Cameron University (Okla.). 
• In 2022-23, SMSU advanced to the NSIC semifinals for the fourth time in program history and first time since 2003. 
• The team finished with 19 victories a season ago, tying for fifth most in program history, and highest total since 2004-05. 
• SMSU also recorded a top three finish in the NSIC South last season, best in the division era, while earning a top four finish in the NSIC regular season standings for the first time since 2004-05.

MUSTANG TIP-OFF TIDBITS
• In the final NSIC stats (league games only), SMSU led the NSIC in 3-point field-goal pct. (35.0), and free throw pct. (77.3), finished second in scoring offense (73.3), third in field-goal pct. (42.6), and fifth in scoring margin (6.4). 
• Stoltzman ranked second in the league in scoring (17.7), fourth in assists (3.5), seventh in field goal pct. (46.2), 10th in free throw pct. (75.2) and 12th in rebounding (6.4).
•  Wall led the NSIC in 3-point field goals per game (3.0) and 3-point field goal pct. (36.9). She is tied for fourth across Division II in 3-pointers made and is 10th amongst active players in Division II in career 3-pointers made.
• SMSU earned a resilient 93-85 victory over Augustana in the first round of the NSIC Tournament on Wednesday night inside the R/A Facility.
• SMSU was led by Madison Gehloff with a career-high 35 points on 13 of 17 shooting with three 3-pointers and 10 rebounds. It is the first career double-double for the senior. Bri Stoltzman scored 19 points on 6 of 15 shooting with seven makes at the foul line and nine rebounds. Sam Wall chipped in 17 points as well, while adding two steals and four rebounds.
• SMSU has shot 50 percent or higher seven times this season.
• SMSU dished out a season-high 22 assists in victories over Martin Luther and Minot State (Jan. 13). 
• Sam Wall became the 24th player in team history to reach 1,000 career points on Jan. 12 and ranks second in team history with 248 3-pointers. 
• Stoltzman ranks fourth in team history in field goal pct. (50.3, 367 of 730) and became the 25th player in program history to score 1,000 points on Feb. 28. 

STOLTZMAN AND WALL TABBED ALL-NSIC
• The NSIC announced junior Bri Stoltzman has been named All-NSIC first team, while senior Sam Wall was named All-NSIC second team. Stoltzman and Wall were both All-NSIC second team members in 2022-23.
• In NSIC play, Stoltzman ranked second in the conference in scoring (17.7), while ranking fourth in assists (3.5), sixth in steals (2.2), seventh in field goal pct. (46.2), 10th in free throw pct. (75.2), and 12th in rebounds (6.4). 
• In NSIC play, Wall ranked first in the conference in 3-point field goal pct. (36.9) and in 3-point field goals per game (3.0). She leads SMSU in 3-point field goals made (85) and free throw pct. (84.6), while ranking second in scoring (13.4).

MUSTANGS BY THE NUMBERS
• For the season, SMSU has three players averaging double figures in scoring, and four averaging over nine points per game. Junior Bri Stoltzman leads the way at 18.0 ppg while leading the team in both rebounding at 6.6 per game and assists with 104. 
• Senior Sam Wall is averaging 13.4 ppg and shooting 85 percent from the foul line. She leads the team with 85 3-pointers, the single-season record for 3-pointers made.
• Senior Madison Gehloff is scoring 10.7 ppg and is second on the team in rebounding (5.4). 
• Junior Peyton Blandin ranks second on the team with 55 3-pointers and is averaging 8.8 ppg. Senior Hannah Parsley  is averaging 9.9 ppg, and has snatched a team-second 41 steals.
• SMSU is shooting 43 percent from the field, 36 percent from 3-point range, 76 percent from the free throw line and is plus-1.8 in rebound margin. The Mustangs are averaging 75 points per game, while opponents are averaging 68 ppg.

SMSU IN THE NCAA STATS   
• In the latest Division II national statistics (Feb. 28), SMSU ranks third in 3-pointers per game (9.8), sixth in 3-point field goal attempts (27.1), 26th in scoring offense (74.7), 32th in free throw pct. (76.0) and 11th in turnovers per game (13.0). 
• Bri Stoltzman ranks 18th in field goals made (181), 29th in scoring (18.0) and 32nd in free throws made (118). 
• Sam Wall ranks fourth in 3-point field goals made (85) and seventh in 3-point field goal attempts (225).

STONE COLD STOLTZMAN
• Bri Stoltzman recorded a career-high 36 points on 13 of 23 shooting in a loss to Northwest Missouri State on Nov. 10. She recorded her second 30-point game of her career with 31 points on 9 of 18 shooting in the win over No. 19 Minnesota Duluth on Dec. 9.
• Stoltzman is leading the team in scoring, rebounding, assists, steals and free throws made. 

WALL REWRITES THE RECORDS 
• Sam Wall set the program record for 3-pointers made in a single-season this season with 80 makes from beyond the arc so far, breaking her previous single-season record of 77 set last season.
• Wall's seven 3-pointers made against Minot State on Feb. 23 ties the record for 3-pointers made in a game in school history. 
• Wall ranks second all-time in 3-pointers made in program history with 248 in 127 games. She is four away from moving into first all-time and passing Jenna Borchers (2018-23).
• She also ranks fifth in free throw percentage at .820 (155 of 189) and sixth in 3-point field goal percentage at .384 (248 of 646).

PEYTON BLANDIN NOTES
• Has started every game and is averaging 8.8 ppg, 3.3 rpg, and is second on the team in 3-pointers with 55.
• Scored a career-high 17 points vs. Northwest Missouri State (11/10/23).

KENNADI BUCHHOLZ NOTES
• Has played in 18 games and is averaging 2.6 ppg and 1.6 rpg.
• Scored season-high eight points at Minnesota Crookston (1/20/24).
• Season-high nine rebounds vs. Martin Luther (1/2/24).

• SMSU is 13-30 all-time in overtime games and have not played one this season. SMSU was 1-1 last season defeating MSU Moorhead 82-75 on Jan. 13, and suffering a loss to St. Cloud State 70-59 on Jan. 20.
