BRULE, Neb. – The Southwest Minnesota State women's golf team improved by 18 strokes on Tuesday to move up two places and earn a third-place finish at the 36-hole, seven-team Battle at Bayside played at the par-71 Bayside Golf Club.
SMSU, which shot a 49-over-par 333 on Monday, finished with a 31-over 315 on Tuesday to close with a two-round total of 80-over 648. Nebraska-Kearney won the tournament with a 56-over 624, followed by Northwest Missouri State at 72-over 640. Wayne State finished in fourth place at 82-over 650.
SMSU freshman
Mallory Uselman, who carded a hole-in-one on Monday, shot a 5-over 76 on Tuesday with three birdies and eight pars to finish fifth overall in the 49-player field at 11-over 153. She finished two shots by Calie Dockter of Nebraska-Kearney and Madilyne Schlaepfer from Northwest Missouri State who both closed with scores of 9-over 151.
Danielle Podoll carded an 8-over 79 on Tuesday with two birdies and seven pars to finish tied for 11
th overall at 21-over 163.
Berkley Steffen tied for 15
th at 23-over 165, following a second-round score of 12-over 83 with a pair of birdies and six pars.
Isabella Jacobs had solid round on Tuesday registering three birdies and seven pars in shooting a 6-over 77 to finish 21
st at 25-over 167 to round out SMSU's team scoring.
Ellie Krueger tied for 33
rd overall at 34-over 176, following a score of 15-over 86 on Tuesday which included an eagle and six pars.
Meghan Pundsack placed 40
th at 46-over 188, after shooting a 17-over 88 on Tuesday with one birdie and eight pars.
Natalie Appel shot a 94 on Tuesday to finish at 59-over 201,
Allie Nedved carded a 103 in the final round for a 69-over 211, while
Roni Hook shot 110 to finish at 81-over 223.
SMSU continues play next Monday and Tuesday competing at the Fall Brawl, hosted by Concordia-St. Paul and Minnesota State, at Troy Burne Golf Club in Hudson, Wis.
