SIOUX CENTER, IOWA – The Southwest Minnesota State women's and men's cross country teams competed in their final regular season meet on Saturday at the Dordt University Classic.
The SMSU women's team placed 16th in the Gold Division with 443 points, while the men's team also was 16th in the Gold Division recording 484 points. Minnesota State took home first place the women's race, while Augustana won the men's race.
In the women's 6,000-meter race,
Madison Marco ran a team best 22:47 for the Mustangs to finish 47
th overall.
Kyra Kusnierek ran 23:55 to place 98th, while
Anneka Sedelmyer was 121
st at 24:45.
Kirsten Koopal ran 25:00 to earn 128
th with
Kaitlin Olson running 26:45 to finish 147
th and
Malayna Hemmen placing 150
th at 29:38.
Grace Steinmetz from Bellevue (Neb.) won the women's race at 20:40.
In the men's 8,000-meter race,
Matthew Groebner was SMSU's top finisher at 26:48 to capture 92
nd place.
Dylan Ommen placed 106
th at 27:12, with
Gavin O'Connell closing in 112
th at 27:20,
Carter Schwalbe in 134
th at 28:16.5 and
Roel Palomo right behind at 135
th at 28:16.6.
Elliott Hoffman ran 28:48 to finish 141
st,
Logan Roelofs was 143
rd at 29:25,
Noah Christensen ran 30:51 to place 145
th and
Daniel Olson was 146
th at 31:07.
Dale Johnson from South Dakota State captured first place in the men's race running 24:06.
Both SMSU teams will now turn its attention to the NSIC Championships on Oct. 24 in Wayne, Neb.
